GARDENS - A description of the gardens featuring in 2011.

  • Garden 1
A park-like garden that is always changing; bush walks, valleys, streams, ponds, lawns and trees provide a frame for the flower, vegetable and perennial gardens, 'Rose Colonnade' and 'Vireya Valley'. Enjoy sculptures and ceramic art, tree and summer houses, water features and birds, bantams and ducks who are the true owners. Stroll around, take the short or long bush walks or just sit and enjoy.
    •
  • Garden 2
This eye-catcher was created from a blank canvas and turned into a work of art, with a natural tropical design and an array of contrasting plantings. Water features and pebble stone pathways lead to the covered outdoor entertaining area and spa pool.

  • Garden 3
An interesting and eclectic mix of natives, palms, succulents and shrubs are featured in this small garden. The back garden has been extended into the Reserve, which can be accessed through the gate.

  • Garden 4
Sit down, relax with a Devonshire tea, or coffee and cake in the lovely garden created with, and for, the children.

  • Garden 5
A garden that includes palms, subtropical and natives with a colour scheme of predominantly hot colours. Enter the side gate and pass built up wall gardens then up the stairs to the top garden, a good spot to survey the surroundings. Stroll along the boardwalk beside the pool to the shaded sandpit and children's play area.

  • Garden 6
A 15-year old garden with 'rooms' featuring subtropical themes, a charming pond and swimming pool, native bush and an English Rose Garden complimented with cottage garden planting.

  • Garden 7
Come and see some of the beautiful blooms, and find out which of the many different irises are suitable for your garden at this show of irises and related plants. There are irises suitable for all growing conditions and blooms for every month of the year. Hosted by enthusiastic members of the Iris Society.

  • Garden 8
A developing garden designed around and under existing trees, accessed by the deck, giving you a bird's eye view. Paths and retaining walls meander amongst garden beds which have evolved and been filled with plantings for all year colour and perfume.

  • Garden 9
Shade-loving plantings and sea views greet you in this piece of paradise. Paths lead to terraces of bromliads, vegetables, citrus and the pond. A work in progress garden.

  • Garden 10
This property is shaped like an amphitheatre surrounded by established natives, exotics and camellias. There is a structured side with hedges, contrasting with a mini-orchard, herb and vegetable garden. A delight for children is the Wendy House under the plum tree.

  • Garden 11
This recently developed garden of contrasting variety is divided into two distinct styles. The formal area of layered hedging leads onto the more informal area for children, incorporating fruit trees, natives and a sandpit.

  • Garden 12
Down the driveway, on the left, enter the gate to the enchanting walled garden featuring a rose arbour designed for their daughter's weddings, creating an aisle flanked by colourful borders. Exit through the pin oak avenue on the other side of the wall.

  • Garden 13
A highlight of previous years, this hidden treasure of perennials, roses, shrubs and trees is a well-established, eclectic, lovingly nurtured garden.

  • Garden 14
Featured in NZ House and Garden, this constantly evolving glamorous garden is a mixture of formal layered hedges and new plantings in the herbaceous borders.
